Title VI and Environmental Justice Awareness Logo

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Environmental Justice Executive Order (E.O. 12898) require Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) to ensure fair treatment and meaningful involvement for all people, but especially for members of minority and low-income communities who have traditionally been underserved and underrepresented in the planning decision-making process. The “Connecting Communities” initiative is an effort to promote inclusion and increase engagement by these populations.

H-GAC hosted a Webinar titled “The Role of Title VI and Environmental Justice in Transportation Planning” to increase awareness of these Federal non-discrimination mandates and familiarize local government planners and members of the public with best practices for meeting the requirements of these laws. The Webinar provides resources, training, and information presented by local and national experts. View the presentations via the links below.
