5. Describe the primary problems to be addressed by the project (Project Need).

The facility had 31 crashes, 0 serious injuries and 0 fatalities during the period from 2015 to 2017. The truck volume on the facility is roughly 296 trucks per day and this represents 5.4% percent of the facility's AADT. The existing roadway generally consists of two travel lanes (one in each direction) with ten foot shoulders or two travel lanes (one in each direction) with a center left turn lane and six foot shoulders. A number of distribution centers and warehouses are located along FM 1405 and traffic volumes are expected to increase with the growth in the area.

Widen to 4 lanes divided; Existing pavement will not be reconstructed. Add capacity (2 add'l lanes) and median openings for turnarounds. Access Mgmt.

The purpose of this project is to reduce crashes, serious injuries and fatalities on this facility.
