Study Summary and Goals

The South Houston Livable Centers study establishes a comprehensive framework aimed at strategizing, financing, and executing a secure, accessible, and dependable multimodal transportation system. This study promotes a health-conscious lifestyle by recommending enhanced and expanded sidewalks, trails, streets, and transit links, thereby facilitating access to parks, retail outlets, housing, and other community amenities through active transportation means. The overarching goal of this plan is to confront prevailing challenges while leveraging existing opportunities to ensure that South Houston evolves into a pedestrian-friendly, livable urban center seamlessly integrated with its immediate and broader regional environs. It provides residents with quality spaces and infrastructure conducive to leading healthy and active lifestyles.

Received 2024 Silver Planning Achievement award in Transportation Planning from the Houston, Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association (APATX).
