FM 565 Intersection Improvements

Chambers County

FM565

FM 1409 to Plantation Dr

The facility had 89 crashes, 4 serious injuries and 0 fatalities during the period from 2015 to 2017. The truck volume on the facility is roughly 287 trucks per day and this represents 5.9% percent of the facility's AADT. The existing roadway consists of two travel lanes (one in each direction) with minimal shoulders.

Increase pavement width, add left turn bays, and reconfigure intersection at IH 10 to accomodate proposed FM 565 widening and turning motions; Update interchange at 565 & IH-10 to accommodate truck traffic that has increased since the multiple truck stops have been constructed. Look to widen 565 under IH-10.

The purpose of this project is to reduce crashes, serious injuries and fatalities on this facility, and to reduce congestion. By providing turn lanes, the proposed project should improve safety by reducing rear-end collisions and reduce congestion by eliminating queuing at cross roads. The proposed improvements should help the facility accommodate future increasing traffic volumes.

The proposed project improves highway/freight LOS. The turn lanes proposed in the project should help reduce queuing of vehicles for turns and should help reduce rear-end collisions. Also, widening the roadway travel lanes and shoulders should result in improved bike level of service by providing additional room to accommodate bicyclist.
