H-GAC Transit studies are a partnership between H-GAC and local public entities, such as a city or county. These planning efforts are valuable because H-GAC assists local governments and agencies in performing transit assessments and alternatives for existing or future service.
Steering Committees and Stakeholder Groups, made up of local members of the community familiar with the local area, are used to guide the planning process and project recommendations. The outcome of transit planning efforts creates implementation guidance for local governments, such as potential funding and methods for developing services and capital projects.

Public Transit Coordination Studies
Public Transit Coordination Studies are defined as efforts conducted outside the 8-county Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) but within the five counties included in the Houston-Galveston Area Council, Gulf Coast Planning Region 16. The counties are Austin, Colorado, Matagorda, Walker, and Wharton. Funding for these studies is conducted with TxDOT planning funding since the counties are outside the MPO.
