As part of the Regional Conservation Initiative, H-GAC collected information on conservation projects from local government and non-governmental organizations for inclusion on a priority project list. This list helps H-GAC allocate staff time to assist with funding applications, convene partners and stakeholders, and otherwise advance conservation projects across the region.

H-GAC classified projects into one of three levels based on their alignment with H-GAC’s Regional Conservation Framework initiatives, local government support, and overall project readiness.

Level Description

1

Projects that are ready to pursue funding and are in close alignment with a major initiative of the Regional Conservation Framework.

2

Projects that are planned or under development and are in alignment with a major initiative of the Regional Conservation Framework.

3

Projects that are in early stages of development and may or may not be in close alignment with a major initiative of the Regional Conservation Framework.

H-GAC will assist local partners and organizations in pursuing funding and related activities based on level. For Level 1 and 2 projects, this will include support on application development, research and analysis, and convening partners and stakeholders. For Level 3 projects, staff support could include general guidance on project development and funding opportunities. Staff anticipates having capacity to support between 10 and 20 Level 1 and Level 2 projects and between 20 and 30 Level 3 projects.

What projects could be included in the list?

Projects must be in alignment with one or more of the three major initiatives of the Regional Conservation Framework—flourishing treescapes, regional greenways, and/or local signature projects.

Projects with well-defined scopes and a demonstrated history of prior successful conservation efforts are more likely categorized in Level 1 or 2, as are projects led by or featuring involvement by local governments in the H-GAC region.

Is there any funding associated with the priority project list?
