H-GAC will assist with preparing grant applications, convening stakeholders, and otherwise supporting implementation of select conservation projects across the 13-county H-GAC region.

To guide our efforts, we are collecting information about planned conservation projects from local government and non-governmental organizations and categorizing the projects in a priority list.

There is no funding associated with this priority project list but selected projects will be eligible to receive H-GAC staff assistance.

See the current priority project list below. The list will be updated quarterly.

Common Questions

As part of the Regional Conservation Initiative, H-GAC is collecting information on conservation projects from local government and non-governmental organizations for inclusion on a priority project list. This list will help H-GAC allocate staff time to assist with funding applications, convene partners and stakeholders, and otherwise advance conservation projects across the region.

H-GAC will classify projects into one of three levels based on their alignment with H-GAC’s Regional Conservation Framework initiatives, local government support, and overall project readiness.

Level Description

1

Projects that are ready to pursue funding and are in close alignment with a major initiative of the Regional Conservation Framework.

2

Projects that are planned or under development and are in alignment with a major initiative of the Regional Conservation Framework.

3

Projects that are in early stages of development and may or may not be in close alignment with a major initiative of the Regional Conservation Framework.

H-GAC will assist local partners and organizations in pursuing funding and related activities based on level. For Level 1 and 2 projects, this will include support on application development, research and analysis, and convening partners and stakeholders. For Level 3 projects, staff support could include general guidance on project development and funding opportunities. Staff anticipates having capacity to support between 10 and 20 Level 1 and Level 2 projects and between 20 and 30 Level 3 projects.

Projects must be in alignment with one or more of the three major initiatives of the Regional Conservation Framework—flourishing treescapes, regional greenways, and/or local signature projects.

Projects with well-defined scopes and a demonstrated history of prior successful conservation efforts will be more likely categorized in Level 1 or 2, as will projects led by or featuring involvement by local governments in the H-GAC region.

There is no funding associated with inclusion on the list. H-GAC staff will work with partners and organizations with Level 1 or 2 projects to apply for funding from other sources.

H-GAC's Natural Resources Advisory Committee will review potential projects and recommend their assignment to a priority Level. The first recommended Priority Conservation Projects list will be presented to the H-GAC Board of Directors for approval in November 2021. Going forward, the list will be updated on at least a quarterly basis.

Submit projects online or email [email protected] to set up a one-on-one meeting to discuss your conservation projects and priorities. We will follow up with questions about project scope, timeline, and funding to get a sense of readiness for inclusion on our priority project list.
