H-GAC’s Area Agency on Aging offers a variety of health education and caregiver workshops. Listed below are the workshops currently available. The workshops can also be offered virtually through Zoom.

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention is an evidence-based program that is effective in preventing falls and relieving arthritis pain. Enjoyable, safe, and easy to learn.

This is an eight-week workshop for adults age 60 and up that meets twice a week. Space is limited. Each session typically lasts about one hour.

Chronic Pain Self-Management Workshop

Learn the skills to manage your chronic pain over this 6-week workshop. Topics include pacing and planning, evaluating treatments, medications for chronic pain, and using your mind to manage symptoms.

This is a six-week workshop for adults age 60 and up. Space is limited. Each session typically runs between 2 to 2 and a half hours.

Diabetes Self-Management Workshop

Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshops provide older adults with the tools needed to help better manage their chronic conditions. A healthy way to live with a chronic illness is by working at overcoming the physical, mental and emotional problems caused by the condition.

This is a six-week workshop for adults age 60 and up. Space is limited. Each session typically runs between 2 to 2 and a half hours.

A Matter of Balance Workshop

A Matter of Balance Workshops are designed to reduce the fear of falling and to increase activity levels among older adults. This program is designed to benefit older adults who:

  • Are concerned about falls
  • Have sustained falls in the past
  • Restrict activities because of concerns about falling
  • Are interested in improving flexibility, balance and strength

This is an eight-week workshop for adults age 60 and up. Space is limited. Each session typically runs between 2 to 2 and a half hours.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a self-care education program for family caregivers to improve self-care behaviors, management of emotions, self-efficacy, and use of community resources.

This is a six-week workshop for adults age 60 and up. Space is limited. Each session typically runs between 2 to 2 and a half hours.
