HOUSTON, TX – The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) invites everyone to the third public meeting for the Washington Avenue Corridor Study. This project is working to make the area safer and easier to travel while maintaining the historical character of Washington Avenue.
Washington Avenue Corridor Study – Public Meeting
6:00 pm to 7:30 pm
Thursday, May 29, 2025
MECA-Houston
1900 Kane St., Houston, Texas 77007
Street parking available.
At this meeting, attendees will be presented with the final two preferred alternatives and recommendations for improving safety, traffic flow, and transportation options throughout the corridor. The public will also have an opportunity to learn more about the long-term vision for the area and be able to provide feedback on the design alternatives.
The study area includes Washington Avenue, Center Street, and Westcott Street. A major focus is pedestrian safety, as much of the area is part of the city of Houston’s “High Injury Network,” where safer pedestrian crossings are urgently needed.
The goal of the study is to create a list of actionable improvements that make travel safer and easier for everyone—whether walking, biking, driving, or riding transit—while honoring the unique character of the corridor.
This is H-GAC’s third public meeting for the Washington Avenue Corridor Study. At the first meeting in May 2024, the community shared input on the area’s strengths and challenges. Based on that feedback, the project team developed potential design options, which were discussed in a second public meeting held in March 2025.
Now, the community will have the opportunity to review and provide feedback on the final set of recommendations, which, once finalized, will be provided to the city of Houston for consideration and potential implementation.
