HOUSTON, TX – The Houston-Galveston Area Council has been awarded a 2025 Aliceann Wohlbruck Impact Award from the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for its Area Agency on Aging (AAA) Roadshow initiative.

The NADO Impact Awards honor regional development organizations and their partners for strengthening communities, building regional resilience, and enhancing local economies through innovative approaches to economic and community development. This year’s awards recognized 90 projects led by 79 organizations across 24 states, and H-GAC is honored to be among them.

"We are deeply honored to receive this recognition from the National Association of Regional Councils, said Chuck Wemple, H-GAC executive director. “The Roadshow Series is more than a program—it’s a promise. A promise to meet our older adults with compassion, listen without assumptions, and respond with purpose.”

The AAA Roadshow is a regional outreach effort designed to connect directly with older adults across the Gulf Coast region, serving 12 of its 13 counties. Through a series of in-person events, this initiative brings vital information about aging services, benefits counseling, caregiving support, and wellness programs to communities that may otherwise have limited access.

The Roadshow has allowed H-GAC’s Area Agency on Aging team to travel across the region and meet older adults where they are—in community centers, churches, and senior living facilities. These face-to-face conversations have helped build trust, uncover real needs, and tailor services that make a genuine impact in people’s lives.

“This award is a testament to the power of showing up, of meeting people where they are, and of building services around the voices that matter most,” Wemple added. “I’m incredibly proud of our team at the Houston-Galveston Area Council and our Area Agency on Aging for leading with heart, and I thank every community member who opened their doors, shared their stories, and helped shape the future of aging in our region."

Award recipients will be recognized in October at NADO’s 2025 Annual Training Conference hosted in Salt Lake City, Utah. All selected projects are featured in an interactive StoryMap, available at nado.org/2025impactawards.
