Who We Are

The Corporation for Regional Excellence, the 501(c)(3) arm of the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), transforms bold ideas into lasting impact. We connect private, philanthropic, and corporate partners to high-impact regional initiatives, bridging the gap between vision and results.

Since its founding in 2003, the Corporation for Regional Excellence has helped maximize grant dollars, and support local governments and communities across the 13-county Houston-Galveston region. But today’s challenges demand even more. They call for innovation, collaboration, and flexible support that complements government resources and helps communities move faster.

Our mission is to accelerate community impact through strategic partnerships, flexible funding, and community-driven solutions that strengthen the resilience of our region.

Who We Serve

From cities to farmland and coastlines, the Corporation for Regional Excellence works to strengthen the Houston-Galveston region, partnering with communities, non-profits, and other like-minded organizations to provide services, resources, and support that create opportunities and improve lives for families everywhere.

What We Do

We amplify H-GAC’s mission by advancing transformative projects in:

Why It Matters

Across the 13-county Houston-Galveston region, H-GAC-funded programs are already making a tangible difference: helping older adults remain in their homes and age in place, accelerating disaster recovery for families, ensuring communities have access to clean water, and improving public health outcomes for older adults and underserved populations.

Our region is growing and so are our challenges.

Nearly 1 in 3 rural Texans lack access to reliable broadband internet, limiting opportunities for work, school, and healthcare.

Healthcare Challenges

With limited providers nearby, many rural residents must travel long distances — sometimes more than 100 miles — for basic medical care.

Disaster Preparedness & Recovery Gaps

Smaller communities often face delays and extra barriers when securing disaster assistance and rebuilding.

These challenges aren’t a reflection of lack of effort — they reflect the limits of resource availability. Public investments and H-GAC programs have already made a measurable difference, but many promising initiatives need additional support to reach their full potential.

When communities have access to the resources they need — at the right time and in the right way — the possibilities for impact are endless.
