In April 2021, the Chair of the H-GAC Board initiated a Select Committee on Board Composition to analyze the results of the 2020 federal census, areas of population growth in the region, and identify potential impacts on representation on the H-GAC General Assembly. Members of the committee met over the course of nine months with a final meeting on January 26, 2022. The committee voted to keep the composition of the Board as it currently exists and made no change to the composition at that time.
In October 2023, H-GAC Board Chair Trey Duhon reactivated the committee to review the voting structure of the Board as it relates to representation by all participating members, and recommend bylaw changes, if any, to the H-GAC Board of Directors. The work of the committee will focus on city of Houston Proposition B and may consider changes beyond the scope of that specific proposition.
Any committee recommendations will be considered for approval by the H-GAC Board of Directors. Changes in the composition of the Board will require an amendment to the H-GAC bylaws.
