On July 27, the Transportation Policy Council (TPC) recognized the service of outgoing TPC member Council Member Pat McLaughlan from the City of Bellaire.
The Council congratulated Tom Lambert, METRO President and CEO, for being recognized as the National Transit Manager of the Year.
TPC approved a resolution to recognize August as Commute Solutions Month. The Commute Solutions program provides a "one stop" alternative transportation resource in the Houston-Galveston region for commuters and businesses.
Stephan Gage (pictured) updated the Council on the Regional Safety Plan's goals and strategies to achieve set safety targets. This is the first regional safety plan for the Transportation Management Area.

The Tow and Go Program, launched by the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), provides no-cost towing for vehicles that break down from mechanical failures while traveling within the City of Houston.
H-GAC manages The Gulf Coast Regional Tow and Go Program through funding provided by the Federal Highway Administration and the Texas Department of Transportation. Initial participants in the program include the City of Houston, Harris County, and representatives from the towing industry that operate out of Houston TranStar.
Vehicles that break down due to mechanical failure (e.g., out of gas, overheating, flat tires) while traveling in the program's service area will be cleared, at no cost, to a safe location within one mile. The program also includes motorcycles and trailers. Visit TowAndGo.com for more information.

August is Commute Solutions Month!
|
|
Commute Solutions' partners in the eight-county Houston-Galveston Transportation Management Area are celebrating Commute Solutions Month in August.
H-GAC, along with some of the region’s transit service providers, will host several public outreach events at park and ride facilities to show appreciation to commuters for their current participation in carpooling, vanpooling, riding the bus, or rail.
These public outreach events will educate commuters, employees, and residents about alternative modes of transportation instead of driving alone, and will call them to awareness and action during August.
