Transportation Policy Council - January 26, 2018
On January 26, the Transportation Policy Council (TPC) approved new 2018 officers, one at-large appointment on the TPC for Other Transportation Interests, and 16 at-large nominations to the Technical Advisory Committee. The Council also approved the TPC Chairman's appointment of six non-voting Ex-Officio members for 2018.

Mr. Jeff Taebel, H-GAC Director of Community and Environmental Planning (pictured), introduced an Amendment to the 2018-2019 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) which was adopted by the TPC. Other Resolutions adopted were: Approval of air quality conformity finding for the 2040 RTP, Approval of amendments to the TIP and RTP, Awarding of Transportation Development Credits, and Approval of Safety Performance Measures.

H-GAC staff gave presentations on the Ports Area Mobility Study and the 2017 Demographic Forecast. An update on Union Pacific Railroad's Rollout of Positive Train Control in the H-GAC Region was provided by Brenda Mainwaring (UPRR). View the archived January 26 TPC meeting live-stream.
If You Missed the January Brown Bag Lunch Series Presentation...

On January 22, Dr. Sam Lott, P.E. led an interactive discussion about "What the Future Holds for Fully Automated/Autonomous Vehicles: Evaluating Mobility Benefits, Infrastructure Gaps and Transit Applications."

While a glitch in our system hindered our plans to live stream the presentation, our speaker generously provided an audio version with more information.

Be sure to save the date for our next Brown Bag Lunch Series presentation on Monday, March 19 from the Urban Land Institute. More details to follow next month.
RTP Process Springs Forward
Planning efforts for the 2045 Regional Transportation Plan continue. The MPO is gearing up for the first round of public meetings, which will begin in March and run through April 2018.

An important component to the transportation planning process, public meetings are used to disseminate material, provide a setting for public discussion, and get community feedback. Our public meetings give you the opportunity to meet staff, ask questions, share concerns, and learn more about how the planning process works.

Save the date, and attend an upcoming meeting in your area!
Reaching Out to the Community
H-GAC staff visited Hodges Bend Middle School in Fort Bend County as a guest speaker for their annual Career Day.

A critical component of the transportation process is receiving public feedback, so what better way to plan for the future of our transportation system than to educate the future generation of bus riders?

Students learned about the benefits of alternative modes of transportation and how planning for these options today will help move our region into tomorrow.
