The WISE Awards recognize innovative strategies and projects in the Houston-Galveston region that serve as models for improving water quality.
This program is overseen by the Natural Resource Advisory Committee, an advisory committee to the Houston-Galveston Area Council Board of Directors. There is no entry fee for the WISE Awards. Submittals in any category must be for activities completed between January 1, 2016, and January 1, 2019.
Eligible applicants include:
Projects in Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Harris, Galveston, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Walker, Waller, and Wharton counties are eligible for recognition. Joint applications for larger, collaborative projects are encouraged. Winning projects must exhibit efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation and serve as models to improve surface water quality.
The WISE Awards honor projects in four categories.
The Planning and Policy category honors projects with potential to improve water quality through collaborative and strategic planning and policy creation.
Projects should highlight how entities effectively:
Winning submissions will outline the process through which the project was developed and, if applicable, implemented.
The Education and Public Awareness category honors projects with potential to improve water quality through public and stakeholder engagement.
Projects should bring to light how everyday activities:
Winning submissions will detail innovative, successful engagement activities and will include metrics demonstrating how success was measured.
The Built Project (greater than $500k) category honors projects contributing positively toward improving water quality through built / installed infrastructure.

Winning submissions will identify how new or existing technologies were successfully incorporated into project infrastructure.
The Built Project (less than $500k) category honors projects contributing positively toward improving water quality through built / installed infrastructure.
Winners and special recognition recipients will be honored during a ceremony on Friday, May 17, at H-GAC Conference Room B, Second Floor. Registration begins at 8:30 AM; the ceremony will start at 9:00 AM. Light refreshments will be served. Following the ceremony, there will be an opportunity to network with H-GAC staff and other water quality professionals.
