Project Implementation
One of the many areas the Recovery Act targeted is infrastructure development and enhancement. This includes, among other things, investment in the construction and repair of roads and bridges, and investments in transit. The State of Texas specifically received $2.25 billion in formula funds for highway and bridge projects. Of that funding, $1.68 billion was allocated to the Texas Department of Transportation, $500 million to Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), and $67.5 million for enhancement projects (i.e. hike and bike trails). The State also received $301 million in transit funding. The Houston region received $485 million for highway and bridge projects and $105 million for transit funding.
