Clean Cities / Clean Vehicles

The Clean Cities/Clean Vehicles Program supports the efforts of local, state and federal agencies in complying with the various federal and state alternative fuel mandates. These mandates require that 45 percent of all vehicles in both private and public fleets of 15 or more operate on an alternative fuel by the year 2020. The program encourages the early acquisition of clean-fueled vehicles in order to accelerate compliance and stimulate the development of a regional alternative-refueling infrastructure. The approved alternative fuels include compressed and liquified natural gas (CNG and LNG), methanol or methanol-gasoline blends, ethanol or ethanol-gasoline blends, and electricity. Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds will be used to subsidize the incremental costs of elgible clean vehicles. This program will reduce costs to public fleets for acquisition of alternative fueled vehicles.
