Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Governmental Affairs/Transportation Committee Jack C. Searcy, Jr.
The Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce worked closely with the Texas Department of Transportation and other stakeholders on the 1960 Access Management Study, the 2920 Acess Management Study and the 1960-SH 6 Access Management Study, as well as “Green Medians” and other transportation projects.
According to Jack Searcy of the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, the addition of medians on 1960 from Mills Road to I-45 had greatly enhanced the traffic flow. The Green Medians group donated $470,000 of $600,000 needed to landscape the FM 1960 corridor. A Joint Powers Board formed by the local Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs) will be responsible for the maintenance after installation. H-GAC also donated funds to help implement the “traffic light premption” capabilities of emergency vehicles, helping to avoid delays and serve as a nation-wide model.
The Chamber is still working with adjacent property owners to minimize openings onto 1960 and maximize connections between properties. Searcy stresses, “Our aging infrastructure for both transportation and utilities is critical to the future economic viability of our region and state. With a rapidly expanding population and limited funds available, we must work together to plan and implement the best actions to enhance and maintain these necessary basics.”
