H-GAC GIS Training

The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) hosts ESRI certified GIS training for the 13 county region. Classes are held twice a year - occurring both in the spring and fall. Due to the large volume of GIS users in the Houston-Galveston area, training is offered to the following groups in the order listed below:
- H-GAC internal staff
- Geographic Data Committee (GDC) members
- H-GAC member government staff
- General public
Training is located at the H-GAC’s main office building (address below) and the training facility can hold up to 12 students with one student per PC.
Class Time Schedule
It is up to the discretion of the teacher/trainer but training classes are usually held from 8:00am - 5:00pm with at least a one (1 ) hour break for lunch. Students should take into consideration traffic and weather conditions and plan ahead in order to arrive promptly by 8:00am on the first class day since orientation and housekeeping items normally take up to an hour.

Fee Payment
The H-GAC training payment policy is that all payments shall be made in advance of class participation. Fees will be charged in advance in order to cover the ESRI training fee costs that H-GAC must pay.
Students may reserve class sessions in advance but students who have paid in advance or have a purchase order will be given priority over students who have not paid. If a class overbooks, students who have paid in advance and have a receipt or purchase order in hand will be allowed to take the class; students who have not paid will be turned away.
Students who do not show up for training will not be reimbursed.

Purchase Orders:
First an entity or agency will need to send the H-GAC Data Services Administrative Assistant a purchase order for the cost of the class or classes that student(s) desire to attend. Next, H-GAC will invoice your agency back. After your agency receives the invoice, it will then pay the invoice. Some agencies require a price quote from H-GAC before they can provide H-GAC with a purchase order. If this is the case, your agency will need to contact the Data Services Administrative Assistant in advance.

Classroom Management
All students are expected to take care of the area around their PC including the desk, chair and floor area. Food and drinks are not allowed in the classroom. At the end of each day, it is the student’s responsibility to clean up the area around their desk, chair and floor if necessary. The training room must be returned to the original clean condition.
Abuse of equipment or students will not be allowed and will be dealt with immediately with possible financial penalties.
