Demographic and Economic Data

The Socioeconomic Modeling Group at H-GAC collects data on the population and economy of our region. We maintain databases with data from many federal and state sources.

NEW! The Demographic Data Query Tool is a web based query tool which allows the user to build custom queries on census and forecast data.

Current Population Estimates are developed by the U.S. Census Bureau and by the Texas State Data Center. Population estimates are only available for counties and cities. For sub-county population data the only available source is latest (2000) U.S. Census Decennial Census.

Detailed Socioeconomic Data (for 2006) for selected counties and cities is available from the ACS (American Community Survey) Program at the U.S. Census Bureau. The data includes hundreds of different tabulations and data items.

Detailed Socioeconomic Data (for 2000) for many different sub-county levels such as city blocks, census tracts, zip code areas is available from the U.S. Census of Population and Housing. The data includes hundreds of different tabulations and data items. You can obtain much of the data with our Demographic Data Query Tool, or to obtain sub-county data from 2000 Census, please visit the Census website or contact forecast@h-gac.com for assistance.

Current Employment data for the region is available from Texas Workforce Commission. 

The Monthly Economic Digest is prepared in cooperation with the Gulf Coast Economic Development District.

Residential Construction Activity data is available from the U.S Census Bureau.
