H-GAC established the Parks and Natural Areas awards program in 2006 to highlight best practices and innovative approaches to parks planning and implementation. H-GAC honors projects in the categories of Projects Over $500,000, Projects Under $500,000, Planning Process, and Policy Tools.
This program recognizes outstanding parks and natural areas around the region. No funding is associated with this award program.
2018 Award winners were honored in February 2019. Award recipients from the 2019 program will be announced soon.
City of Sugar Land Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan is the 2018 winner in the Planning Process category.
Harris County John Paul Landing Park is the 2018 winner in the Projects Over $500K category.
Spring Creek Nature Trail is the 2018 winner in the Projects Under $500K category.
League City Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan received 2018 honorable mention recognition in the Planning Process category.
Quintana Beach County Park Discovery Event Center received 2018 honorable mention recognition in the Projects Over $500K category.
Bay City Parks Master Plan received 2018 special recognition in the Planning Process category.
Dragonfly Park received 2018 special recognition in the Planning Process category.
Gene and Loretta Russell Park Master Plan received 2018 special recognition in the Planning Process category.
Baytown ADA Boat Ramp and Kayak Launch Renovations received 2018 special recognition in the Projects Over $500K category.
Juan Seguin Historical Park received 2018 special recognition in the Projects Over $500K category.
Mayfield Park received 2018 special recognition in the Projects Over $500K category.
Since its inception, H-GAC's Parks and Natural Areas Awards have recognized outstanding practices across the Houston-Galveston region. With nearly 200 entries since 2006, the projects serve as models for the rest of the region to consider.
