Charting Change

The region and its communities are beginning to receive 2010 U.S. Census data. H-GAC has already published a first installment on its website (http://www.h-gac.com/community/socioeconomic/census/default.aspx), and will publish other data as it becomes available.

The Census data portrays the dramatic growth and increasing diversity of our region. This information will provide the raw material for local planning and economic development and, where applicable, for redistricting.

From an H-GAC perspective, the Census underscores that we are truly a growing region, not simply a region with one or two growth centers. We will continue to make this important information available to our region, and our Community and Environmental Planning department can help assess the meaning of this information for your local government.

2010 Census Redistricting Data Now Available
US Census LogoThe 2010 Census Redistricting data (PL94-71) is now available, and summary tables for the 13-County H-GAC region can be found online.

For GIS users, H-GAC is providing shapefiles with data (66 variables: population by age/race/Hispanic origin and housing units) for blocks, block groups, tracts, places and school districts for the 13-county H-GAC region. Click to download the zip file.

The decennial census no longer collects information on income, education, etc. This is done by American Community Service (ACS). H-GAC provides a map interface which allows users to select a census tract and access a wealth of ACS data.

For more information about the U.S. 2010 Census, please contact Dmitry Messen.
