|Regional DWI Task Force - Labor Day|
|H-GAC completed its FY16 Regional DWI Task Force activities. Over the Labor Day weekend enforcement period, the Task Force apprehended 37 suspected drunk drivers, bringing the total number of arrests to 199 for the year. |
Since the inception of the program in December 2012, 986 suspected drunk drivers have been arrested within the eight-county region. TxDOT recently awarded H-GAC a fifth year of funding for FY17 beginning on October 1, 2016.
The Task Force is funded through a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant provided by TxDOT, and it is the only multi-agency enforcement grant in the State. This grant helps pay officers overtime for their enforcement activities during the holidays. H-GAC serves as the administrator of the grant allowing the participating agencies to focus more on their enforcement activities.
