Home Rule and General Law Cities Caucuses
General Law Cities and Home Rule Cities with populations under 25,000 will convene in November to choose two Board Members and two Alternates to represent their respective groups on the 2017 H-GAC Board of Directors.

Home Rule Cities will meet on Thursday, November 3 and General Law Cities on Thursday, November 10 at Maggiano's Little Italy in the Tuscany Room on the 2nd Floor. The address is 2019 Post Oak Blvd, Houston, TX 77056. Click HERE for a map. Cost is $55.00. Valet and self parking are complimentary. 

2017 General Designation Forms have been mailed.

Event schedule is the same for both meetings.

Board of Directors
This month the H-GAC Board of Directors was presented with the Draft 2017 Budget and Service Plan for review.  

The Board passed a resolution recognizing the retirement of Walker County Commissioner B.J. Gaines for his 17 years of service to the region. B.J. Gaines is a past chair of the H-GAC Board and served on the Finance and Budget Committee. He has also served as Vice Chair of the Audit Committee, Elections Committee and served on the Gulf Coast Regional 911 Emergency Communications District Board of Managers. 

Raymond Wilburn with the Texas Veterans Commission informed the Board that the Gulf Coast Region IV employed the most veterans in the state for three consecutive years and displayed three trophies honoring the region's accomplishments.
CHARM Mapping Application Workshop
Development and growth impact the need for and quality of surface water. But seeing the impact in real time hasn't been possible until now. Participants at the next Clean Waters Initiative workshop will learn about the Texas Coastal Watershed Program's Community Health and Resources Management (CHARM) mapping application. The workshop is on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at H-GAC Conference Room B, Second Floor.

The CWI program offers workshops to help local governments, landowners, and residents develop effective strategies to reduce pollution in area waterways. For more information, contact Kathy Janhsen at 713-993-2423.
Harris County International Trade and Transportation Conference
The 8th Annual Harris County International Trade and Transportation Conference will feature some of the newest developments in trade and infrastructure that could impact the future of your business. This year's keynote speaker will be Lance Fritz, CEO, Union Pacific Railroad.

Hiring Red, White & You! Statewide Job Fair
Workforce Solutions, the Texas Workforce Commission, the Texas Veterans Commission and the Texas Medical Center are proud to present the fifth annual Hiring Red, White & You! Statewide Job Fair at Minute Maid Park on November 10 from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Hiring Red, White and You! connects Texas veterans and their families with Texas employers who value the experience, discipline and other exceptional qualities inherent with a military background.

In 2015, Hiring Red, White & You! Houston had over 2,500 veteran customers in attendance, with 22 veteran service organizations and 158 employers participating in the event. Additionally, over 75 employers conducted onsite interviews and there were 17 onsite hires.

2017 Election Law Workshop
Save the Date for the 2017 Election Law Workshop to be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Houston, TX. The workshop is designed for everyone charged with conducting elections. Participants will receive detailed updates on election laws and step-by-step procedures for conducting an election; including duties prior to election day, on election day, and after election day.

$125 registration fee per person. Click HERE to register. Deadline for registration is Monday, January 23 at 5:00 p.m.
Airbag Recall - Important Announcement
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave a presentation to the H-GAC Regional Safety Council about the Takata Airbag Recall. A representative provided vital information on a dangerous airbag inflator defect that is putting drivers and passengers at risk of serious injury or death, resulting in the largest safety recall in U.S. History.

Owners of the following vehicles are advised to stop driving until the defected airbags have been properly replaced: 2001-2002 Honda Civics and Accords, 2002-2003 Acura TL, 2002 Honda Odyssey, 2003 Honda Pilot and 2003 Acura CL.
