H-GAC's 2014 General Assembly Meeting is scheduled for Friday evening, February 21 at the DoubleTree by Hilton - Houston Greenway PlazaThe evening begins with a Reception at 6:00 p.m. followed by Dinner at 7:00 p.m. The cost to attend is $55.00 per person. Officer election ballots will be mailed to all General Assembly delegates in early February for election of 2014 Board of Directors Officers. Ballots will be opened and results announced at the annual meeting. Those nominated to serve as officers include: 

  • Chair: Councilmember Darrell Morrison, City of Pasadena
  • Chair Elect: Judge Nate McDonald, Matagorda County
         
  • Vice Chair: Councilman Chuck Engelken, Jr., City of La Porte  

 

The principal speaker at the General Assembly Meeting will be State Representative Wayne Smith.   

State Rep. Wayne Smith

In November 2002, Representative Wayne Smith was elected to the Texas House of Representatives to serve District 128, encompassing Baytown, Deer Park, La Porte, Morgan's Point, Pasadena and portions of the unincorporated area of East Harris County. At the beginning of the 83rd Legislative Session, Rep. Smith was appointed to serve as the Chairman of the Licensing and Administrative Procedures committee. 

 

Rep. Smith also served the U.S. Army in the Republic of Vietnam. Rep. Smith and his wife, Brenda, live in Baytown. He has two children and three grandchildren. 

 

Project Development Workshop for Elected Officials

 

 

H-GAC and TxDOT invite you and your colleagues to participate in the 2014 Project Development Workshop for Elected Officials on Friday, February 28, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in H-GAC 2nd Floor, Conference Room A.

 

 

Project development can often be a challenging task; therefore, this workshop will provide local elected officials with the steps necessary to successfully develop federally funded projects. 
Workshop speakers include: Carlos Swonke, Director, TxDOT Environmental Affairs Division and Mike Leary, Director, FHWA Planning and Program Development.

40th Anniversary of Houston-Galveston Area MPO

The Houston-Galveston Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) will be celebrating 40 years of service to the Houston-Galveston region next month. Elected officials from the eight-county region are invited to the kick-off event on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. 

 

Speakers will include Transportation Policy Council Chairman, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, H-GAC Executive Director Jack Steele, Texas Department of Transportation Commissioner Jeff Moseley, and City of Houston Council Member Stephen Costello.

 

The photo exhibit entitled The Art of Transportation: Four Decades of Transportation Planning, will be displayed all month at Two Allen Center Lobby from February 3-28, 2014. For more information please contact Marco Bracamontes or Alan Clark 

 

Save the Date for Trash Bash 2014

Official Trash Bash Logo Mark your calendars for the 21st annual River, Lakes, Bays, N' Bayous Trash Bash® Saturday, March 29. This annual half-day shoreline clean up event will be held at 17 locations across the region. Volunteers will receive free t-shirts, lunch, and entertainment.


Last year during Trash Bash®, more than 5,000 volunteers collected 4.93 tons of trash along 167 miles of shoreline.

Loan Programs Available through H-GAC  

H-GAC currently manages a suite of business loan programs including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Small Business Administration 504, and the Economic Development Administration Revolving Loan Fund.

 

Truck The Drayage Loan Program helps short haul trucking companies/owner-operators purchase fuel-efficient and cleaner running trucks. More information can be found here.


HGALDC
The SBA 504 Loan Program provides long-term business expansion financing for real estate, construction, and equipment purchases. Additional information is available online.

The EDA Revolving Loan Fund assists businesses impacted by Hurricane Ike. Visit www.gcedd.org for more information.
