WHO/WHAT: The Gulf Coast Workforce Board officially changes The WorkSource name to Workforce Solutions.
WHERE: Name change affects all employer services and resident services operations in the Board’s 13-county Houston-Galveston Gulf Coast service region.
WHEN: July 1, 2008
WHY: Change is part of a statewide economic development initiative, directed by the Texas Workforce Commission, to give 28 Texas workforce board networks a common brand to make it easier for employers and job seekers to locate and access services across the state.
OTHER: Nothing has changed, but the name. Like The WorkSource, Workforce Solutions is an excellent resource for labor market and career planning information. It operates multiple community-based career offices in all 13 Houston-Galveston Gulf Coast area counties, offering job placement, career counseling and job-related financial aid for those who qualify.
Workforce Solutions provides employers with personalized services to find qualified applicants for job openings. It helps employers access new and current employee training to improve worker skills and expertise, as well as with outplacement services for employers and their employees when companies are downsizing, re-structuring or closing facilities.
Workforce Solutions services are publically funded by state and federal tax-dollars that are redirected back into the Gulf Coast region, and through state and private grants. It does not charge customers for services.
