Regional DWI Task Force - Labor Day
The Houston-Galveston Area Council, through the assistance of 16 regional law enforcement agencies, is conducting Regional DWI Task Force operations throughout Labor Day to cut down on driving while intoxicated (DWI).

The Task Force, which is funded through a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant awarded by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), provides overtime funds for agencies to enhance DWI enforcement during holiday weekends when there have traditionally been more alcohol-related traffic incidents. The Task Force has made 761 DWI arrests since it's inception in 2013.
Announcing the Our Great Region Awards
Does your organization have an outstanding local project in the arena of transportation, environment, economic development, resiliency, housing or healthy communities? The Houston-Galveston Area Council is introducing a new awards program: The Our Great Region Awards.

The Our Great Region Awards will recognize outstanding projects in the region that are advancing the goals and strategies identified in the Our Great Region 2040 plan.

Award application will open in early September. For more information on the Our Great Region awards, including the application guide, please go to the award website.
Parks and Natural Areas Awards
Herman Little Park The Parks and Natural Areas (PNS) Awards will be accepting applications until Wednesday, September 7, 2016. PNA Awards highlight best practices and innovative approaches to parks planning and implementation in the 13-county H-GAC region.

H-GAC PNA Awards honor projects in four categories
  • Projects $500,000 or more
  • Projects under $500,000
  • Planning Process
  • Policy Tools
Winning entries demonstrate best practices and collaboration between developers, local governments, engineering and planning agencies, businesses, resources, environmental groups, and citizens. Entries are evaluated on innovation, merit, and regional impact. These projects serve as models for planning and project implementation for parks and natural areas in the region.
