Local Initiatives Projects Funding Presentation


The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) will provide information and answer questions regarding Local Initiatives Projects (LIP) funding and project eligibility on August 21, 2015 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. in H-GAC 2nd Floor Conference Room B. LIP provides funding to counties participating in the Vehicle Emissions Inspection Maintenance program (Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris and Montgomery Counties) for local projects to improve air quality. The 84th Texas Legislature significantly increased available LIP funding, with amounts ranging from $100,000 to $1,700,000 for each county.

Public Meeting - Draft Title VI Plan

The Houston-Galveston Area Council will host a public meeting on the Draft Title VI Program Plan on Thursday, August 6, 2015 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the H-GAC offices, 3555 Timmons Lane, 2nd Floor Conference Room A, Houston, TX 77027. The public is encouraged to attend this important meeting to provide comments. Copies of the Draft Plan will be available at the public meeting and is also available for review on our website.


The 14-day public comment period ends on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. Written comments may be submitted to Transportation Public Information, Houston-Galveston Area Council, P.O. Box 22777, Houston, TX 77227-2777, faxed to 713-993-4508 or emailed to PublicComments@h-gac.com.



Regional Growth Forecast

2040 Regional Growth Forecast H-GAC has released its 2015 second quarter regional growth forecast estimates. The 2015 Q2 release includes data on population and jobs down to the Transportation Analysis Zone (TAZ) and Census Tract level. The data is available to download, as well as for display as maps and tables.

Parks and Natural Areas Award Season
Go Native - 2014 Parks Award Winner The Parks and Natural Areas (PNA) Subcommittee is making plans for the 2015 PNA Awards season. Applications will be accepted Monday, August 10, through Wednesday, September 9. 

Winners will be notified in November, and the awards ceremony will be in January 2016.  An e-mail with more information will be sent on Monday, August 10.

PNA Awards highlight best practices and innovative approaches to parks planning and implementation in the 13-county H-GAC region.

H-GAC PNA Awards honor projects in four categories

  • Projects $500,000 or more
  • Projects under $500,000
  • Planning Process
  • Policy Tools

Winning entries demonstrate best practices and collaboration between developers, local governments, engineering and planning agencies, businesses, resources, environmental groups, and citizens. Entries are evaluated on innovation, merit, and regional impact. These projects serve as models for planning and project implementation for parks and natural areas in the region.

Public Comment Period - Transportation Projects

H-GAC is announcing the opening of a public comment period for candidate transportation projects for state and/or federal funding assistance.


The public comment period began on Monday, July 27, 2015 and will end on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. A public meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the H-GAC offices, 3555 Timmons Lane, 2nd Floor  Room A, Houston, TX 77027.


The public is encouraged to attend and provide comments. All written comments may be submitted to Transportation Public Information, Houston-Galveston Area Council, P.O. Texas Municipal League - Region 14 Meeting
Please join us for the 2015 Texas Municipal League Fall meeting. The meeting will be held at the Moody Gardens Hotel in Galveston, TX on Friday and Saturday, August 21-22.

A block of rooms have been reserved for Friday, August 21, 2015, for those desiring overnight accommodations at the Moody Gardens Hotel. Lodging accommodations must be made directly with the hotel by calling 1-888-388-8484. Please mention the TML Region 14 block.

Economic Development Digest Newsletter

H-GAC has re-launched the Economic Development Digest. This quarterly e-mail newsletter by the Gulf Coast Economic Development District provides a snapshot of current economic development trends along with relevant economic forecasts and data for the H-GAC region. Loan Programs Available through H-GAC  

H-GAC currently manages a suite of business loan programs including the Drayage Loan Program, Small Business Administration 504, and the Economic Development Administration Revolving Loan Fund.


TruckThe Drayage Loan Program helps short haul trucking companies/owner-operators purchase fuel-efficient and cleaner running trucks. More information can be found here. Anyone interested in applying can call 832-681-2512.

The SBA 504 Loan Program provides long-term business expansion financing for real estate, construction, and equipment purchases. Additional information is available online or by calling 832-681-2592.

Gulf Coast Economic Developmetn District Logo

The EDA Revolving Loan Fund assists businesses impacted by Hurricane Ike. Visit www.gcedd.org for more information.
