Raising Standards in the Floodplain, Friday, June 18, 2010
This workshop focused on higher standards in the floodplain and was geared for floodplain managers, compliance inspectors, local officials, and others involved in the development and enforcement of the regulations. Topics included examples of higher standards, the benefits and costs of their implementation, regulation development, promulgation requirements, the public education process regarding higher standards, and enforcement.

This two-part FEMA workshop focused on residential construction and was geared for local officials, building inspectors, construction personnel, and floodplain managers. It provided a practical approach to designing and building stronger foundations to better withstand coastal storms. The first section offered building officials and community decision-makers a better understanding of the need for foundation design guidance. The second part of the workshop continued the discussion, focusing on adopting and enforcing proper code requirements designed to withstand coastal wind and flood events.
