FAST - A Local CRS Users' Group

FAST

Floodplain Awareness Success in Texas (FAST) is a Community Rating System (CRS) Users' Group, begun in April 2010. CRS is a voluntary incentive program of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum NFIP requirements. As a result, flood insurance premium rates are discounted to reflect the reduced flood risk resulting from the community actions meeting the three goals of the CRS:

1. Reduce flood damage to insurable property.
2. Strengthen and support the insurance aspects of the NFIP.
3. Encourage a comprehensive approach to floodplain management.

Meeting Information
FAST meetings provide a chance for those involved in maintaining their community’s CRS program to explore opportunities for improving the community’s rating and to share information with other communities. Each FAST meeting includes a presentation on and discussion of a CRS Activity or related topic. Communities already participating in the CRS, as well as communities not participating, but interested in learning more about CRS, are welcome to attend. Unless otherwise indicated, meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the offices of the Houston-Galveston Area Council.
