H-GAC is the state designated planning agency for solid waste management issues in the region. The H-GAC Solid Waste Program reviews applications for landfill permits and solid waste grants. H-GAC provides technical assistance to local governments on solid waste issues, as well continuing education opportunities for local governments and solid waste professionals.
The local government implementation funds are intended to provide grant funding for projects which will provide a direct and measurable effect on reducing the amount of waste going into regional landfills, by diverting various materials from the municipal solid waste stream for beneficial use, or by reducing waste generation at the source.
