The Data Services Department is the information technology and services arm of the Houston-Galveston Area Council. Within the department are three functional areas, including Information Technology, Geographic Information Systems and Web Site Development. In addition to providing internal support and assistance, Data Services' professional staff offer a variety of services to H-GAC's member governments, state and federal agencies, and many private sector firms. Information Technology Services The Data Services Department maintains H-GAC's information systems infrastructure, including servers, physical networks, database systems, security and the organization's main web site. Staff provide technical support services to all H-GAC employees, as well as desktop support for more than 200 state employees at Gulf Coast Career Centers, throughout the 13 county planning region. Web Site Development Within our web site, we are striving to provide convenient public access to the wealth of information managed and maintained at H-GAC. Your comments and recommendations are welcomed, as we continue to expand and improve our Internet presence. GIS Services The GIS mission is to maintain geographic databases, layers, historical and present-day raster (imagery) and vector data, support the H-GAC’s internal GIS users, produce high quality maps, assist with the publication of on-line maps, and assist the H-GAC’s member agencies with GIS endeavors while maintaining a high level of professionalism and courteous service to all its clients. The GIS strives to share all public geographic data through the entity known as the Geographic Data Committee and its effective and efficient use of systems, processes and policies. Lastly, the GIS will continue to assist with the coordination of GIS education and training, foster GIS dialogue with H-GAC staff and maintain the Data Service’s GIS staff skills through GIS training.
